Some great sketches on here. Been ill so I missed some, really like George and Alan's above.
I'm planning a large Alice n Wonderland painting, and thought I'd better sketch the characters first to avoid having another large unfinished picture. I've done many in the past but still find it fascinating and inspiring. (As opposed to real-life at the moment). I need to settle on the Alice character first, she'll be realistic. Found a free-use ref pic I thought I could use...it's the sketch on the left...
...ok, but not quite the right expression. I seldom find a ref pic that's right...so I've altered her expression, still using the ref pic, if you know what I mean. This is my normal way of using such pics. Think I'll go with the pic on the right. Left - pencil, right watercolour pencil.

I don’t usually post sketches, but have been clearing out a lot of old work (at least trying to, a lot has gone back in the cupboard!) and came across this one in pen and wash which seems topical at the moment, so thought I might as well post it. I seem to recall we were using dip pens made from sharpened matchsticks.
