Just realised that the title sounds like a news paper title.
I was fortunate enough to receive two excellent sketch books for Christmas, one is A4 and leather bound the other is a pocket type pad with paper that is the thickest I’ve seen in pad . The small one is made to take pen and wash without leaching or cockling , it’s not going to cockle given it’s thickness, the larger pad has an excellent smoother paper quit a lot thinner it will take ink without leaching through but does cockle .
I was hoping that the sketch a day thread would kick off as we are into the new year, I don’t watch tv etc so sketching in the evening is a good pastime and I can do pen and wash sitting at the dining table. Sketching regularly has definitely been a benefit as it’s improved my artwork in general immensely.
Do tag any sketch you have do to this thread if you want to .
The smaller pad .

A watercolour sketch I did a while ago, but I will try and get back into my daily sketchbook routine shortly and post on here.
I’m intending to extract some components from this sketch for my next oil - which is continuing my theme on the London dockyards… spurred on by the excellent response from my recent posting of the same subject, for which I’m always appreciative.

This was a sketch done last night. It's a model from the club. I couldn't be there in person because I have flu despite having the jab. I did this charcoal sketch from the image sent to me. I haven't done any sketching or painting for over a week. I'll be resuming the life classes when I'm fully recovered.

Anyone remember when Denise was just a beginner? And look where she is now - a great drawing, and I certainly hope you're feeling better: I've had the Covid and 'flu vaccines, and so far - though one hates to brag - I've avoided the rampant viruses galloping through the local community. And George is always good, so no surprise there.
I will post soon, I will, I will, I will ... go on, hold me to that and excoriate me should I fail.

Denise has worked hard a her artwork and has become one of the best artists on this site , it’s a privilege seeing how much her work has developed.
I didn’t sketch I’m my pads last night, as I wanted to set up a complex painting, driven by having messed one up earlier because I fiddled with it. A lot more detail in this scene than I would normally do at this stage , I’m wanting it to be one of my most complicated paintings, fingers crossed it works .

but I have here because I’m doing it “ portrait”. A snow scene round the river with lots of shadows and light. Off to make a start.
Charcoal sketch done this morning with a painting to follow
