Three great choices Tessa. I recognise the red sunset one which I think is in the Tate - a spectacular almost abstract work in a super palette.
Edfou.  I looked through his work and I like the work he did on his travels, this one in particular, I think he captures the light and the impression of the stonework really well.
Michael I’m sure you’re right about The Tate. My search initially led me there and I know at least one was from there.  Denise I do like your choice- such a lovely soft colour palette and the chap in his red hat- a lovely touch!
Some excellent choices of paintings by this  superb artist. I have picked out a few more , Gibraltar simply because I live there for three years. My other choices are to show how simple his work looks but I bet it’s not easy to get it this good I do love his figures , simple dashes of colour modelled on human shape .

Excellent selection Paul, really good watercolours.
I was  fascinated by the second one down Dixie, the one with the very dark sky., that I had to look it up.  The bridge and cathedral  suggested Durham to me but the foreground boats and the people on the river bank have a more asian/african look to them.  Yet Durham it is.
Well researched Tony and thanks for the feedback. , I just guested  it was Middle East etc due to the boats and the suggestion of people in robes. Give the times is suppose they could be big dresses , but the boats certainly look Nile type .
These are wonderful paintings.  I lived in Gibraltar for 6 months too, Dixie, but returned when my father died there. On the Middle Eastern theme, I really admire David Robert’s watercolours of his travels.

I have him on the list Linda , he is one of the many I came across whilst researching for the thread, would you like to do the intro when he comes up in a few weeks time . Gib is a lovely place to live unfortunately I was not into painting at the time.
Yes, I will.  I have a couple of books on his work, so I will have to read them instead of just looking at the pictures.  I’m off to Scotland in 2 weeks time though.  I may go dark.

Enjoy your time in Scotland, it will be two or three week before David Roberts appears on the thread .
This week’s artists are so different but equally gifted in their styles. I have met a lot of William’s farmers over the years, with baler twine holding up their trousers and keeping the coat closed against the weather. Really like his work!, Babazon … what can I say other than wow! Funnily enough I have heard of him but hadn’t really spent any time looking at his work until this week. He seems to have been a prolific artist and I love his pictures of his travels. He captured the light so beautifully and equally his industrial landscapes caught the dark brooding scape. Thanks for the introduction to both of these men.
