His portraits are wonderful and I 'know' so many of the characters he's painted.
Oops, I
It's  good to share our Wales, Russell .
I 'discovered' this artist a few years ago, of all things, a short piece on him on 'Flog It' sparked my interest.  All his work is admirable, but it's his portraits that really score with me.  Confidently painted in strong strokes, all packed with character.
Nearly all of his oils were painted with knives - very appropriate for Wales: rugged paint, shapes hewn into it.  Suspect he used black, as well - out of the tube rather than mixed. Did he not feature in The Artist some years ago - I know I've seen the picture of that soldier before, and Kyffin's remark that he much preferred sitting for a painting than doing anything seriously military?  Wonderful painter - look at the way he captures those dogs, all lithe enthusiasm!
As good as Sir Ks work is (and deservedly so) it's a shame that Hercules Brabazon Brabazon's work has been overlooked. Here's one of his of Morocco which brings alive the spirit and light of the county.
Michael - I think we're due for some H B Brabazon a bit later - I quite agree with you about his work.
We definitely are in for some H B Brabazon,  on Wednesday he is one of my choices , I will put his work up about lunch time in keeping with the theme we have developed.  Michael I have to agree with your choice is superb hopefully we will get to see a lot more on Wednesday.
Sorry yes - still getting the hang of this thread.
An excellent choice of paintings and a distinctive artist. I like them very much. I like his choice of colour in his portraits and the texture in his landscapes.
Farmer Pontllyfni. He has done some wonderful winter scenes on the hills. I also think his portraits are quite stunning. Lovely bold markings. I've enjoyed looking through his works and reading about his successful career. Great choice, Sylvia.
It is so nice when other people enjoy your choice.  If you are ever on Anglesey , Oriel Ynys Mon in Llangefni has a whole beautiful gallery of his work.
