Some brilliant posts.  The humble sketch, the cornerstone of all art...though not so humble in the case of these artists.  There's always something new to find in art.  Tessa's Gary Andrews post caught my eye.  Don't know him, I'll have to look him up.
I think you’ll appreciate his work Lew, let us know . I don’t know why his drawings haven’t come out very clear- they were before I uploaded them! . I was listening earlier to the war artist George Butler whose sketches are amazing- need to look further at his work.
A few sketches/studies by Degas.
Superb. I love his observation of dancers, and the musician.
The studies by Degas are lovely, and I like the Ian Sidaway ones also. Here are some by Gustav Klimt.
Many appealing sketches, everyone.  I've just had a search for George Butler. One of the pictures taken of him in a war zone with dip pen and ink, I found that quite incredible, good selection, Tessa.

Beautiful sketches posted , my selection today is from Rembrandt Von Rijn to the the master his full title. Once again an artist whose work I have  know but never taken much notice of and certainly not looked at his sketches before. One thing about this particular thread is that I’m looking at artist differently via their sketches .
Oh yes, an artist who sketches I particularly admire… and well worthy of study Paul. These are a few of my Rembrandt style drawings that I did a while back now, for a feature ‘Learning from the Masters’. I hope that you don’t mind me posting my own sketches on this thread!
I’m really pleased that you have posted some of your own work Alan.  I know that like myself and several other POL  artists you are a  great believer in the need to be able  to sketch and that drawing is an important part of the art journey.  Be nice to see if others have example of there own copies of masters  , please do post them as it adds more interest to the thread .  I know he is a marine artist but do look at the sketches by John Briscoe , I’ve spent the last few day studying his work as part of my research into the history of marine art .

I love drypoint etchings, and these are superb examples Paul! That last one in particular…and that rigging on the second one down!

Love those posted so far. I've found a few sketches/drawings by Henry Moore as he's not been featured on the inspiration thread before: There is apparently a whole book of Henry Moore's sheep sketches!
We will have to remedy that Andy will you do an intro if I put him on the list .
