Love this - super use of colour!

Nice to meet you John! Your a very talented artist all round.

Thank you Chris, you just made my day 😊

Great portrait John. I like the way you have done the shading on the one side so that you are coming out of the background yet connected to it. I also like the way you have painted your glasses. As Chris says, nice to meet you!

Very few strokes but to great effect. A lot of consideration , I expect, before you dropped the paint in.

Thanks David and nice to meet you too :)

Thank You Marjorie, totally right, thinking about colour saturation and value before each stroke :)

Yes I feel I could know this person! The light & dark works very well.

I really like your portraits John, just the right amount of detail.

I know nothing of the mechanics of portrait painting, perhaps you can treat it very much like a landscape in a way. The face has plains and contours, peaks and troughs all creating light and shadows. This example is perfect to demonstrate that. Pleased to meet you by the way!

Thank you Katy and Jean, I'm delighted you like it 😀

Fiona, I really agree with you there, a painting is shapes, colours and values wether it's a portrait or landscape... it's just portraits are more scary 😊🤗😊

I like the light here, very dramatic John.

Carole, thank you 😊 glad you like it

Thanks so much Gudrun 🙏

Love this one

So, a rare subject for me. I totally respect portrait painters, there is a lot to be captured apart from the physical image.
