The historic barge "Vega" now finds itself in an almost land-locked location at the Swan Hill Pioneer Village in Victoria, Australia. Once this strongly constructed barge was towed behind paddlewheelers on the mighty Murray River servicing many farmers by carrying huge loads ... it was capable of carrying over 2000 wool bales at any one time. In this painting I have endeavoured to show something of its out-of-character isolation in the dry, hot surroundings of early village architecture.
