Thursday 10th February 2022 at 2:30pm
‘Paint, paint and more paint is what I want’, is the usual response by artists. In this webinar, I’ll show you how expressive drawing will add strength to your painting and add real value to further creative adventures with paint.
This webinar explores the exciting range of graphite drawing tools available to you as artists, to create expressive exploratory drawings in multiple layers.
Using the reference photograph provided, this evocative layered landscape with all those field patterns and sharp defined hedgerows will give you a great opportunity to put into practice what is explained and demonstrated for yourself drawing your landscape with conviction.
Webinar two - Creative expression with charcoal
Thursday 24th February 2022 at 2:30pm
Charcoal - that AMAZING artists' media! There's so much you can do with it and in this webinar I will show you how. Today’s artists don’t just have sticks. There are blocks, grades (from ‘H’ to ‘very soft’), liquid charcoal, powders and more!
This webinar takes you through the possibilities of adding new dimensions to working with a traditional media, in contemporary, new and exciting ways. To include liquid, powder and charcoal aquarelle all in the same expressive drawing creates amazing depth!
The reference photograph of one of the quieter Yorkshire Dales villages, ‘Thorpe’ in Upper Wharfedale (Near Grassington), provides you with lots of opportunities to explore texture and light, the main themes of this workshop, using different types of charcoal in combination.
Webinar three - Painted drawings
Thursday 10th March 2022 at 2:30pm
Drawing media has never been as exciting and in this webinar you’ll learn how to move graphite into the painting realm. We will explore ways of painting with graphite - creating multiple layers of monotone, duo tone and combinations of subtle tints of glowing earth tones - transparent blue and subtle smoky greys.
This will be an exciting practical webinar, exploring drawn and painted graphite marks together with lots of successful outcomes on different textured papers. It will also be an eye opener to the new and innovative liquid graphite ‘paints’, which when combined with expressive drawn marks, create really exciting drawings indeed!
The photographic scene for you to use in this webinar is local to me in North Yorkshire. Layers of liquid graphite will be wonderful to use to express the scene. Have your materials at the ready, this is going to be another good one!
Webinar four - Expressive layered landscapes
Thursday 24th March 2022 at 2:30pm
In this webinar, I will demonstrate and guide you through many different ways of successfully combining drawing media together (both charcoal and graphite) to create real depth and expression with your work. See how the combinations of both versatile drawing media work together in interesting and exciting ways, to create impressionistic and expressive contemporary drawings.
It's time to get dramatic! This moody and dramatic Lake District scene provides you with a great opportunity to delve in with the drawing media and create a wonderfully evocative scene emphasising the light, depth of tone (and more), to evoke drama and impact to this landscape composition.

Ink with charcoal and graphite can be a really exciting combination to express your ideas. Many different types of ink are used in my studio and are to be found in my creative kit bag for outdoor painting too. They add so much to your drawings, and in this webinar I will explain how successful colour combinations, with a limited colour palette, can further your continued expressive drawing experiences.
