O'Brien's Mill
As a youngster, I still remember visiting with my Dad and brother an old water-powered sawmill in the village near where we lived. Located near a small river it had lots of pulleys and belts running hither and yon. For a workplace safety person today it would have been a veritable nightmare. However, to the best of my memory, no one was every seriously injured. This painting of a small grist mill was a fairly common sight in the later part of the nineteenth century throughout local settlements in Ontario and elsewhere.
