A great lively sketch, Jim. Super pen work.

Love the pen work.

I know that painting, this is an excellent version of it.

Very evocative. I too remember this painting, brings back many memories.

So much colour and life in this, Jim

Great memories with this one Jim, my Nanna had it on her wall along with one called " The Toast " can anyone remember that !!

Excellent sketch Jim!

Thanks all for the comments. Always welcome. Linda, I don't particularly remember "The Toast" although I looked it up. Most places, relatives etc, in childhood seemed to have Edwin Landseer's "Lord of the Glen", "When did you last see your Father?"..or Millet's "The Angelus" on their walls. Happy times..(-:

My brother had this on his bedroom wall as a child, not sure he had much say in the choice, but I always loved it! Seems it was a very popular choice of the time! Happy memories indeed Jim.

This is an eye- catching watercolour with great pen work, Jim

One I also remember from way back. Thanks for the memories...I think ours was a print though...🙃

Just a thought , I wonder if it was a give away with Sunlight soap from Lever brothers. Lots of these prints were and so many of us remember this one. Another one was Millais “ Bubbles “ the posh little kid in a velvet suit blowing them.

Just looked up Bubbles ...Twas pears soap not Sunlight. Silly me .

Thanks all for the great comments.I remember "Bubbles" very well, Sylvia, and also Gainsboro's "Blue Boy" as popular, although our house, as Catholics, had a very large "Jesus looking over Jerusalem" in pride of place till I left home. Since then my walls have seen many slightly less "heavenly"subjects. (-:

Prints of William Holman Hunt's "Light of the World" could always be found in all the Catholic homes in our area. In retrospect, those were amongst the happiest days of my life.

I did this because we once had the original John Everett Millais painting in our local art gallery in Bolton for a time. Call it happy memories..(-:
