Leave as a monotone for me… I love this powerful sketch!

Super sketch. These old buildings are fascinating.

Looks absolutely superb to me as it is. Says it all without paint! Fab, Martin!

Great sketching.

I like it as it is and it's a very good sketch

So much texture with that pen work. No colour needed.

This is so expressive Martin. The pen work is amazingly, textural and full of vigour. I absolutely love this work of art.

Brilliant sketch Martin.

I like the power and drama of this beautifully drawn sketch. There is relief and contrast with the "empty" space leading into the building.

Really kind of you all to post such positive comments. Thank you

Speaking as one who often DOES overdo it when working in ink -I don't think you've overdone this one at all, and I agree with Alan Bickley: it's powerful, and monotone is appropriate. You've not done any fancy work in the sky, your foreground is largely free of marks, and those areas of white paper were well left - they've let your drawing speak.

Lots of texture and age treatment appropriate to the subject. It's good. How about leaving this one but doing another inspired by it, in the studio, to add washes?

Thanks Robert and Gerry. Good points well made

A great dramatic sketch!

Excellent sketch

Nicely done Martin. Doesn’t need a wash in my opinion.

Plein air sketch of the partially ruined Abbey. Probably overdone it. Not sure whether to add colour washes. Fude pen with carbon ink on Clairefontaine Paint On a Grain pad
