Really good Martin.

An excellent landscape, Martin. Glad you posted it.

A really nice landscape painting.

Well done for sure. You mentioned the paper was ultra-smooth but the rendering especially in the sky looks more like cold pressed or even rough - how did you get that effect on smooth paper?

Very good Martin

A super landscape Martin.

Thanks everyone for your comments

David I used a new tube of W&N ultramarine for the sky and it seems to have granulated excessively and to my surprise. I’ll be interested to see how it performs on other papers

I think it's great, Martin, especially the foreground and water

Thanks Valerie and Thalia. I always appreciate your comments

Very good Martin. The foreground tree is a perfect touch. I have a tendency to edit out scraggly vegetation but this has convinced me to leave them in!

Thanks John. I find it’s often worth the effort

It has a lovely sense of distance Martin. Great foreground.

Thanks very much Marjorie

Wonderful steps and gradation of values leading to the background trees. I think the foreground tree is dynamic leading into the painting. I would only wonder, in the hope that this is a helpful observation, about the number of "fencepost" white trees in the back. I'm mindful here that the viewer wants to participate in such beautiful work. That less is more. I love the feeling of calm.

Thanks Lynne for your perceptive comments which are much appreciated. I agree about the apparently excessive quantity of white fence post trees in the background. To explain. I included so many as there was an extensive wild fire that devastated this area 5 years ago and these are a small selection of the stumps of thousands of birches that were killed. It was a sad looking area but thankfully nature is repairing it more and more each year.

Oh, I see, Martin. Your work is so fine, I should have known you had good reason for the tree stubs. You've turned the devastation of a fire into beauty.

Trying out a new pad of Botanical ultra smooth wc paper. My usual MO of sketch on site and colour added in studio. Pen and wash. A3. Not sure but I liked the foreground tree so I posted
