Like the way you have done this Martin, excellent colours.

This is really beautiful Martin.

Beautiful communicating trees, Martin!!

It's a great book and this is a lovely painting

Such an exotic medley of harmonising colour and branches. A superb painting that I could look at all day, Martin.

Beautifully painted Martin.

So good of you to respond everyone. Heartening in view of the fact that I almost binned the drawing after reworking it a couple of times. It’s been sitting round a few months and after reading a part of the book I scrubbed and lightened the middle section then just let the colour flow. Finally sprayed bits of water then dropped salt on the lower part. All very loose

It’s as magical as I’m sure their conversations are Martin.

Way to go. I have thrown out paintings. I wish I had waited as you did and rework them. What you have come up with is beautiful and luminous, and I love the idea you got your second inspiration form a book!

Reminds me of a natural fireworks display martin, super..

Fascinating and full of colour and movement Martin.

Thanks for your great comments everyone. Much appreciated

So beautiful Martin.

Thanks very much Spencer and Karen. Good of you to comment

I’ve been reading The Hidden Life of Trees as recommended by my POL friend Marjorie and was fascinated to learn about communication between trees. The image was started as a plein air walnut ink sketch of two ancient oaks at Lindholme Hall and completed with liquid watercolours in studio by imagining the colour of conversation.
