Across the Harbour, Whitby

Very moody and like how the cottages stand out!!

Moody is right! But then Bram Stoker had his Dracula based in Whitby, didn't he? This would make a good illustration for that book. Brooding menace around the charm of the cottages. I like it.

I like your approach to this landscape, very atmospheric

Very nice view! I'm missing Whitby's fish&chips 😉 I have to go pay a visit!

I agree with Lewis, would make a fabulous illustration for the book.

I love this Martin. It’s very Whitby. If you sat and did a few of these on one of the Goth weekends you would sell them all!

Lovely work, Martin. Very atmospheric.

You have certainly made the harbour your own Martin, was it the fish and chips? It works well.

Thanks David Lewis Heather PogArt Fiona Sarah Carol and John. Interesting and supportive comments which are ever appreciated

I can see why Dracula would love the place. Dark, moody and menacing except for that brighter row of houses.

Thanks Spencer. I see your point

I really like the style of this.

Like it a lot!

After finishing my delicious fish and chips at Whitby last week, I managed a quick sketch of the iconic cottages across the harbour whilst the gaffer finished hers. Later in studio I decided to try and emphasise the whiteness by adding a number of increasingly darker washes. Not totally successful as this is on cartridge paper but I like the quirkiness of the wonky sketch. Fude pen and wash on A4 Canson 1577 pad
