Sweet Chestnut Tree

A super tree painting

Wow, Martin - that is a complicated tree! You have dealt with it so well I think the addition of the watercolour has really added much to the painting!

Great detail; very impressive Martin.

An excellent result Martin, and a fantastic tree. I can see why you were attracted to it. I think the watercolour addition works well.

Only you know what it was like before the addition of the paint. The paint added is restricted in colour and complements the drawing beautifully I think. I like how you’ve added the paint “en bloc” to the distant trees - a lovely result Martin.

A superb drawing Martin , tree as so architectural if we look close . This lovely sketch with the added colours shows off the tree beautifully, the colours are a definite benefit to the overall look.

Love the twists and turns of those outstretched branches Martin. A fabulous painting.

Whole picture is well done 👍

This is absolutely beautiful. The details within the tree are superb.

What a magical tree. Love all those twisty branches Martin.

There's always something special in the trees! I love them, I'm big fan of Bonsai Trees (have one by the house), no any indoor though... Your tree study is very accurate, lots of attention to its curves and texture!

A wonderful tree beautifully drawn and painted!

Thanks for your positive responses Anne David Karen Tessa Marjorie Coral Dixie Chris Stephen Spencer Carole PogArt and Anne. On reflection I think you’re right about the colour. I had just finished painting when I uploaded the image and I’m always less certain at that stage of a painting for some reason. Your support is much appreciated

Great drawing, Martin - I think the addition of the paint, especially the soft outline of the trees behind it, really enhances it.

Thanks Jenny I appreciate your input. I think you’re right

A complex tree so well drawn and painted.

A lovely tree study , really like it.

I think it’s superb altogether Martin. The ink drawing is excellent and you’ve controlled the amount and colour of the palette just right.

This is great Martin.

Thanks Christine Valerie Fiona and David. Your comments are much appreciated

Started En plein air in Clumber Park on Monday and added watercolour today. I was impressed by the convoluted complexity of this fantastic tree which was a bit of a challenge. Luckily there was a bench I could perch on and the sun came out to play. I’m not sure if it wasn’t better without the paint.
