Like this a lot - definitely has a Japanese influence.

There is a Japanese influence here, almost ikebana. Love the contorted yet minimal shapes to your twigs. The outline’s really project them forward. Great work Martin.

Thanks for your much-appreciated comments. The influence may be more Chinese than Japanese as I taught myself Chinese Painting from an excellent library book over 40 years ago. I wasn’t very keen on grinding my own ink though. Lol

I was drawn to the complex curly wurly shapes in this bush. En plein air sketch with 0.2 pilot pen finished indoors with watercolour loosely interpreting the colours. I notice the ink is not as waterproof as carbon ink in the Fude pen. Contorted hazel bush at Spinney Lodge Jedburgh. Fine grain watercolour paper 12 x 10”approx
