Watercolour painting 16 inches by 20 inches. There are really two paintings in one picture: a many textured garden contained by a stone wall boundary and, beyond the wall, a picture of rooftops overlooked by the imposing St Edmundsbury Cathedral and the Millennium Tower. A third element in the painting, and vital to the composition, is the sky. Colours used were as follows: For the sky I used French ultramarine and burnt umbra. A thin wash of cerulean blue was added to the top right-hand corner of the painting. The garden colours were sap green, hookers green and burnt umbra with some light area washes of burnt sienna. French ultramarine was used with the “greens” to provide shrub colour. Cadmium yellow and Naples yellow were both used: the latter being used sparingly to provide a glaze base for specific features such as the stone wall. The roof-tops were a mix of cadmium orange and colours already referenced.
