Lovely portrait, I love the eyes, try as I may I can't seem to get to grips with pastels. Well done.

A lovely delicate portrait. I think perhaps a warmer colour for the background would have brought out the skin tones.

This is a lovely portrait. Little angel ?

This portrait is of my Grandaughter Faye it was taken from a photograph.Faye is 15months old and I don't think I quite caught the baby look.Hoping to improve on this problem

Thank you for your kind comments on my two paintings today. I hadn't even tried pastels when I did that portrait but after doing a course with Vivien Walters I am now using pastels more. Two portraits were done in acrylic because I wanted the strength of colour for them both. I specifically went into pastels for portraiture but haven't yet been able to find a suitable ground on which I can blend the colours. I like velour for animals but it doesn't allow blending at all. Tried Ingres and several others and didn't like them either so if you have a suggestion for a good ground that holds pastel well and still allows blending it would be more than welcome.

I normaly use fabriano paper in various colours in the portrait of Faye I used a sand colour... I also use a piece of chamois leather to blend colours, this can be a good way to cover areas such as backgrounds experimenting with torchons and ladies make up tools can be usefull, small blenders found in eye makeup kits are particulary good ........best wishes Diana ,... regards Tom Kerr
