Thank you everyone for such lovely supportive comments! The gentleman who commissioned the painting has commissioned several paintings to tell his life story, it has been an interesting experience for both of us! I'll bet the Ark Royale must have looked awesome, Alan! I am intending to go and paint plein air around the Grand harbour when our weather improves...F8 gales and storms at present!!! A large commissioned painting painted from a tiny photograph, this boat was carrying my clients' father to Malta just before WW11, a naval officer, he met my clients mother here in Malta, married her and took her back to Scotland. How's that for a romantic story! It was painted almost entirely with a knife, as I could not see detail. He wanted a dark foreboding sky threatening the dark history for poor Malta.
