Into The Deep Dark Woods!

Am glad you got there - it's a cracker!

This is really good Tessa and beautifully painted.

I’m liking this series on black board… impressive indeed!

So fluid. Another excellent one Tessa.

Love the gauche on the black paper. The effect is so unusual and very striking Tessa.

Really exciting mark making. The black background definitely adds something.

Thanks so much Heather, glad you like it. Dixie, many thanks as always. Alan, thank you also. Glad you like the series. I guess I need to continue then!? Marjorie, thank you also, always glad to hear from you. Carole, I’m quite taken with the black base myself. I always like painting with a black outline, as with Cezanne and his still life, and I think this relates to that. Bobbie and Russell, thank you both for your lovely words, always appreciated.

Corrrrr……this is fab Tessa! Your sinuous brushstrokes have given the tree life…..love the touch of blue.

There's something about gouache that nothing else has - that creamy look, and the feeling that this paint really represents our countryside and landscapes. Of course, it helps a lot if you know what you're doing with it, and Tessa - you do.

Fiona, many thanks. The touch of darker blue was originally meant to be sky holes, but realised they were too dark, added some lighter, decided to leave some of the original! Actually there was almost no sky in the photo but the painting seemed to make more sense with it- artists license. I am never looking to follow a photo too closely. Robert, many thanks. I’m enjoying using the gouache, it is creamy and does flow nicely on the mount board, and is pleasing to use. I’m also always thinking about what paint I can use for Plein air work and gouache has to be more convenient than oils, at least for sketching. Sylvia- diolch!

Really love the fluidity and movement in this one.

Wow, fantastic Tessa.

Thank you so much Spencer, Elaine and Denise. So good to have positive comments and encouragement.

This series of gouache on black is most impressive.

Thank you Lewis. 👍🏻

Love this series on black, Tessa, it’s a very appealing style.

Thanks so much Jenny. I’m not entirely sure where the series is going, but it’s certainly been well received, so I must put my thinking cap on…

I also love this series on black Tessa; very beautiful and very clever.

Thank you Karen, I appreciate that. Just checked out your work and it’s very good. You live in a lovely part of the world.

Thank you Tessa. And yes plenty of scope for painting here, you probably know the area quite well from your time in Cardiff.

I do indeed Karen, and the one thing I missed when we first moved was being able to get to the sea within half an hour or so, not so easy from here! Happy painting.

An exquisite piece, Tessa - the brushwork is superb, as are the composition and the beautiful use of shapes, textures and space.

That's stunning Tessa, excellent work.

Really like this, Tessa. Lovely gnarly old tree.

It’s gorgeous Tessa, love it!!

Thank you so much Seok, Val, Shirley and Romila. Your comments do mean a lot to me. 😊

You use gouache so beautifully Tessa, love your style.

Thank you so much Carole. I showed this and the others to my daughter and this is now heading to London , “ sold” (well you know what I mean!)

For “sold” read “given” but it means I will see it on someone’s wall other than mine! 🤣👍🏻

I find this style appealing Tessa and a good strong subject well expressed.

An eye catcher – wonderful!

Many thanks Diane, Valerie and Detlev, much appreciated.

Interesting and colourful painting, Tessa

Thanks so much Maureen.

Another gouache on A4 black mount board, this time letting less of the black show through. From a photo taken a few years ago at our local arboretum, always intended for painting, eventually got there!

About the Artist
Tessa Gwynne

I have returned to painting over the last few years having relocated from Cardiff to the Cotswolds in 2009 and joined the Guiting Power Art Group. Although I did a year's Foundation Course at art college after leaving school, I hadn’t painted much in the interim, except for a few attempts here and…
