Tessa this is wonderful, especially the glow you have achieved on the skin. He has such a strong presence I’m almost waiting for him to speak. Unbelievable that you have not dabbled in this area before, as it is extremely impressive. Best wishes for Christmas and a Happy painterly New Year😊😊

Thanks so much Christine, Carole and Linda. Love your comments! I did do a half decent self portrait when I was about 16 ( a wee while ago!). It hung in the hall of my parents house but no idea what happened to it (? skip maybe). Portraiture was what I hoped to do when I went to art college in the 70s but they weren’t interested in anything like that and knocked it out of me sadly. Never too late hopefully! Happy Christmas to you all. X

Oil on board 12x10” completed recently. I decided to try some portraits and this is the first done from a photo (no I couldn’t get him to sit for me!) . It took a heck of a lot of adjusting and readjusting along the way but I’m reasonably pleased with the result and think it’s about finished, and I really enjoyed the change from landscape to portrait.
