More Flippin’ Pumpkins! by Tessa Gwynne

Very nice Tessa. As kids we used turnips to make scary heads. You only ever see pumpkin heads these days.

Some good colouring in there Tessa, and variety of shapes.

It’s hard to stop with these lovely colours. Pumpkins have come from America I’m sure. We also carved out turnips ( well, swedes really but in the North of England we call them turnips ). I still remember the smell when they had the lit candle inside.

Thanks all. I don’t remember doing anything for Halloween when I was a kid. I must have been a deprived child!

Tessa - the turnips sere for Bonfire Night, Hallowe’en is an American custom which has migrated to Britain.

A very apt, autumnal, still life Tessa. I love pumpkin and it bothers me that so many are wasted on such imported, nonsensical, rituals. Maybe I’m just an old grouch but I dislike these American ideas that we seem to copy so much.

I don't remember Halloween as a youngster either. I like your painting.

Thanks Lew and Heather. I think the rise of Halloween as we know it now, is largely courtesy of the USA isn’t it?

Alan, Marjorie, Carole, I missed you out. I so agree Carole. We are the old grumps who pretend not to be in if hoards of trick and treaters are around! I shall try to make something with my pumpkin and it won’t have a candle in it! 😏
