Lovely work. At our first house, an old gardener next door had a hedge of these. He called them ‘dog roses’, strange name for a beautiful flower.

I love the pinks against the dark foliage. Dog Roses always make me think of sunny days.

Lovely work Sylvia , lucky you having a hedge full , my favourite rose . Lew I know them as dog rose, I believe it come from the smell the shrub can give off, unfortunately it smells like dog pee. Non the less a beautiful flower as captured by Sylvia.

Beautiful flowers, beautifully painted Sylvia! I agree with Janet; the flowers look great against the dark background.

It's lovely, I like these roses, have lots of them too

Lovely painting Sylvia

These are lovely flowers Sylvia.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments . Sorry gents these are not Dog Roses which grow wild ,these are posh ones and don’t smell of dog pee, they are much darker in colour and twice as big…

Actual dog roses are Rosa Canina, named because the thorns were like dogs teeth. Rosa Rugosa are the more horticultural form. Both beautiful like you stunning painting

How funny, we planted a Rosa Rugosa hedge in our first home (cheap & fast growing). They were beautiful,as are these Sylvia.

Such pretty pink dog roses Sylvia, displayed so richly against the velvety, green, foliage.

Very pretty, Sylvia.
