Hi Sian, I think this is pretty lovely for a first pastel! Soft, gentle colours, nice sunny spot in the middle and the little flowers at the front are really good. It's always interesting to try different things.

I enjoyed the physical process of using pastels much more than I thought I would - and it is so quick compared to acrylics. This was about 40 minutes. Thank you for your comments, Satu. It means a lot to me to have a 'mentor' and I always try to act on advice.

I've never yet got the hang of soft pastel - better than I was, but that's not saying much; I certainly wouldn't show my efforts here! For your first pastel I think this is damn-fine-splendid, as a Liverpudlian colleague of mine used to say. Do more?

Hi Sian, thanks so much for your lovely comment on my oil painting of the brown boots, you left me a a lovely glowing comment Sian,I am delighted that you feel your gain something from the comments I leave for people, maybe you are quite new to painting are you? This website is actually full of people who have more experience than me you know. You certainly leapt in at the deep end with this pastel landscape above, it is good, maybe bit too much of a smooth curve to your mountain tops but lovely colours in it and I love the flowers in the foreground, thanks again for the great comment and happy painting Sian

10.11.12. Went to art materials exhibition at NEC. The only place to sit down to eat our sandwiches was at the SAA stand so that's what we did. Then remained to produce this - thanks to Jeremy Ford. Not really my thing but interesting to try something completely new. Got a bit bashed up on the train coming home so I thought I would store it here rather than under the bed.

I always find it interesting to read about the rest of you. I gave up art when I had to chose between it and maths at 'school. I then gave it a go when I retired and have found it a fascinating hobby, enabling me to view with new eyes, to visit art galleries with greater interest, to sometimes haveā€¦
