This looks a very accomplished watercolour to me Sharon, lovely colours

Only you can comment on likeness. Very good for a first attempt. I'm sure you know the right side is better than the left; you can't rub out watercolour! I look forward to the next one. You have captured a person very well with your excellent use of colour and tone; lovely mouth, nose and eye detail.

ps do you use extra white paper or traditional white?

Hi Gudrun. Thanks for the feedback. For this painting, I used Bockingford not, which is a traditional white. When I get better, i shall probably have a go on Saunders Waterford extra white.

Like this a lot, bags of style for a first attempt, looking forward to seeing more!

I think this is a very accomplished portrait and especially so as it is a first go at a self portrait. Love the soft looseness of it and the beautiful light you have injected into it.

P.S. For my portraits I like to use a very white paper and find that Langton 200lbs is perfect. I tried Saunders and didn't get on with it at all and find that Langton suits a looser style of painting. Try it out and see what you think.

Thanks, Thea. I'll try the Langton and see how I get on - possibly post the results up here!!

Hi Sharon Ros P here, just seen your very kind comment on my eye study drawing, thanks for that, very much appreciated, comments make what we are doing worthwhile, so always good to get them, and I like to comment on good work myself in return

First try at a self portrait in watercolour. As I paint without any preliminary drawing, the proportions are not quite accurate - I have made the face too round, resulting in a much younger look. Would that we could do that in real life!! I like some of the paint effects, and will endevour to improve on the likeness.
