It's not easy to paint black animals, but you've pulled it off very well; and if this were my dog I'd be very happy with the portrait. There's plenty of depth here.

A beautiful portrait Sarah, the shine on the coat is so well done, the expression well captured and the neutral background sets it all off very well. At first I thought it was pastel but maybe it's oil?
