Very lovely painting, Bob. The water is brilliant , as are the rocks covered in moss.

Beautiful watercolour, Bob

You have painted this beautifully Bob. Such a good variety of greens which you have handled so well. Very, very nice work.

Hi Seth, Maureen and Margaret. Thank you for leaving your kind comments. I did toy with the idea of including either a Dipper, or a Kingfisher in the painting, but I wondered if that would detract from the moody effect in the foreground of the moss covered boulders, anyway, I left the birds out in the end.

Love the painting.

A wonderful result Bob, it is a complex scene especially for watercolour. I wouldn’t know where to start!

Thanks Chris and Fiona. I started with an overall bright yellow green everywhere except the water and sky, plus the yellow in the centre near the skyline. The whites in the river were masked out at the beginning. I then did the far bank using spatter and stippling with differing greens. The foreground was done initially wet into wet, then the boulders and trees done wet on dry using a lot of negative painting for the lighter parts. It needed quite a lot of patience and in all it took about four days...working about 2-3 hours a day, depending on available time, with my wife having come out of hospital a couple of weeks ago....she likes it... the painting, not hospital!

Thank you Bob, it’s a credit to your patience. I hope your wife is making a full recovery.

Super Bob, worth all the effort.

Thanks Fiona, she's doing pretty well considering the Parkinson's....she has a review next week, which should help, and thank you also Frank.

Love this :)

Good luck for next week!

Just finished this watercolour which I started over the Easter period. The source photo was taken from the Photos4artists web site. It is one of the most complex paintings I have done, as there was a lot of content even though the painting omits and simplifies a lot of detail. The greens were modified Sap green, Hookers green, Viridian and Cobalt turquoise.

About the Artist
Bob Biggart

I'm an amateur artist who started to paint in watercolours about 1990, when I found that the watercolours I admired in galleries were way beyond my price range. My thinking was that in time I might be able to produce paintings that I could hang on my wall at home, and be happy with. At the…
