Whatever else it is, it isn't "a total mess"; it isn't even a partial mess - it's not a mess at all. I like the way the branches interlace and interlock, if I were going to criticize I'd observe that for me, at least, the left hand upper side works less well than the rest, in that the tallest tree isn't completely resolved by comparison with the others, ie amongst other things the contrast is less strong. But as a spontaneous painting, my basic feeling is that I wish I could do as well.

Robert...Thank you for commenting so encouragingly. What happened upper left, I think, is that I hoped for a gleam of Autumn sunshine (which didn't work out as I envisaged it, as so often happens!) and by that time I had 'scrubbing out' elbow, so left it before I found myself in Australia!!

Well done Ruth, I like this. The colours and especially the negative painting. You have the merit of trying out different approches - which I don't! - and you've produced some interesting texture.

Thanks, Avril...Go try...! I'm sure you will be surprised by your results.

I think this looks like a beautiful snow scene Ruth and would make a great Christmas card. I agree with Robert's comments about the left hand side and maybe you could just go in and fiddle a little? When you feel brave enough? Reflections are good and it certainly isn't a mess!

Ruth you always punish yourself ! I think that it is a lovely watercolour. It feels winter and I like it very much.

Thank you, Julia and Beatrice, your comments always help to give me confidence.

An interesting sort of melted effect...

This is a lovely example of an abstract feel in a subject that is 'just trees'... But not just trees. They are very well-painted trees, and as I said, with a great abstract feel. Nice work Ruth. Many thanks :) Regards John

Have looked at your gallery & commend you on some lovely paintings.....this one we like because of the melted effect you have acheived...well done Betty & Max

Watercolour approx 10x10" One of my ' letting go' spontaneous paintings. Neither tight nor really loose, but it was fun...mostly negative painting, with no prior drawing...... It could be regarded as a total mess, and i would appreciate comments of any kind..
