I think that vibrant sky colour sets the landscape off a treat in this Rowena.

Acrylic on paper. I started this painting about 4 months ago and put it aside, unsure of how to resolve the painting, with many aspects that didn’t feel right. Today I think I’ve finally finished it after several days of work. I tend to apply layers of paint, sometimes with a palette knife, scraping the surface with colour to deposit other colours over the raised parts from below and then fine brushes for details. I think I enjoy the process of applying the paint as much as creating the picture.

At school my Art teacher told me that I used too much colour in my work. Happily I’m not at school now and can use as much colour as I like! Later as a mature student I did a foundation and half a degree in Art, until family and finances cut that short, but both wonderful opportunities to study…
