You have given the star a good cast to be with Roland, another super sky and lovely water and reflections.

Another star Roland love the recession much to learn in your work and we can't rush or speed up experience

An absolute stunner Roland!

A wonderful painting Roland, amazing reflections and I love the boat :)

Another beauty, Roland. Gorgeous depth and clarity.

The colour combinations are beautiful - l love that touch of aquamarine beyond the boat.

This is really lovely Roland, so tranquil and some superb washes.

Excellent work Roland , the reflection of the sail is perfectly done as is the particular colour of the sails which so many artists seem to get wrong ......

Beautiful painting

I take my hat off to this one with your dreamy washes and beautiful subject Roland.

Another stunning painting Roland...your paintings are inspirational! Beautiful colour tones and composition too.

Wonderfull what more can I say

Beautiful, Roland, love the soft colours. Out of interest, what technique do you use to achieve the very fine white lines used in a lot of your watercolours? They are very effective.

Yes smashing technique shown all round and the gallery - well smashing.

Thank you everyone! For having a look at my work and taking your valuable time to drop a line. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. I really appreciate all your comments very much. I am very new to this website, it was recommended to by Dermot Brennan, a fellow watercolourist and friend. The welcome from everyone has being so warm, friendly and positive. It encourages me greatly and really makes me want to push on my work and develop further as a watercolourist. Its such a wonderful medium, will we ever truly unravel the mysteries of watercolour and what can be done with it ? I hope not...
Many thanks once again.

Jenny, the fine lines in my paintings are created with masking fluid and a very fine well worn rigger. I apply it just skimming the top of the paper before I start painting, sometimes I will scrape with a blade but thats usually just to fill in the gaps where the masking missed. I try to imagine the surface of the water and then attempt to converge the lines through the reflection back to the focal point of the painting. Glad you like the effect, I tend to use it rather a lot, maybe its just habit but I like it too!
Hope this helps.

Love it roland.

Many thanks Russ.

Thanks for the explanation, Roland, I thought it was probably masking fluid but I find such fine lines can often be difficult to achieve with masking fluid, especially on some watercolour papers. (What paper do you use, and what size do you usually do your paintings?). These fine lines are a lovely addition to your work and make your paintings quite distinctive.

Hi Jenny, sorry for the late reply.....
Paper, I use Whatman (not made anymore) old stock I bulk bought a long time ago, 140 lb NOT and 200 lb NOT also some Rough. Also use Arches 140lb NOT, 140 lb Rough and 200 lb Rough.
Most all the paintings I have uploaded on this site are half sheets, 21x14 inches.
Thanks for the info., Roland, much appreciated.
