Gosh - how I envy you. My most favourite place in Provence is Vaison La Romaine, which is close to where you are. This painting is a perfect rendition of the light, the landscape, the ambiance and atmosphere of the region. A winner!

The thing that comes over very well in your painting here Rod is the sheer spontaneity of it. Lovely decisive brush strokes and composition.

3 September 2014. Lucky enough to be spending three weeks painting in Provence. The light here at this time of the year is absolutely beautiful! This is my first painting which is in the countryside about one mile from Bonnieux. I love the steady weather here, unlike England where it’s always so changeable. It was so tranquil - the only sound I could hear was a distant chainsaw and the odd tractor working in the fields.
