Love the light in this Rob.

That caravan is gorgeous, Rob. The whole scene is lovely. Great shaddows too.

Thanks Stephen! I wanted to create a sense of 'space to roam', given the subject matter, and the foreground was going to be quite busy. So I wanted to leave the background as clean, clear and bright as possible.

Thank you Jennifer! The painting was commissioned by a lady with Romany blood, so I thought I'd better do a little research on caravans! In paintings with lots of detail, I like to create strong light to highlight things, and the shadows really do make a difference to the composition - it looked weird until I put them in.

My latest work - a commission to portray Romany life. I've tried to give a sense of space, to represent the life on the raod, with always somewhere else to roam. Most of the details were asked for by the commissioner, but I think the 'busy' foreground works OK against that spacious background.
