Two super paintings here Robert. It would work well large size but as it is it's absolutely lovely! I especially like that wisp of darker cloud and the blue of the distant hills which is reflected in the foreground.

Yes I agree. Lovely brush strokes and great textures.

Superb painting. I just love the colours you have used and the addition of white (?) to give a creaminess to them - what I call ice cream colours. Just enough definition in the tree and vegetation without losing the freedom and looseness of the painting. Love it.

Love the indistinguishable, misty horizon of a hazy summer day Robert. Beautiful painting.

7" x 5" have you gone beserk...no one paints in oil so small....8x8 well ok just realised thats what I painted my seasons seris on. As usual you are spot on. Clever person.

Actually Sylvia, I think you're probably right......... I feel the urge to increase (now look: I was just going to say I feel the urge to increase my size: now you just KNOW the vast number of emails I'd get if I said that) - so, I feel I should paint larger pictures. That should be safe enough: I already get quite enough junk mail offering utterly horrid devices and creams.... I got the very small canvases to fulfil a particular commission, they were easier to buy in bulk, so I've been using up the residue; it's interesting, actually - you really can't afford to add lots of extraneous detail in a very small painting, but need to focus on the essential: and that's quite a challenge. Many thanks for all comments.

There is a hint of the Impressionists in this, Robert, with the eye blending the colours. Very effective indeed. And detailed for such a small work.

you create so much depth using a great contrast in tone, a little gem this!

Both paintings are beautifully done, Robert! Vibrant, well composed and engaging - all the attributes of good art.

Love the hazy background, the colours and that impressionist look to this Robert - it smells of summer in the countryside

I've painted this before, but not at this time of day. Oil on canvas, 7" by 5", so very small. Beginning to itch to paint something a lot bigger!
