It is better in real life than this photograph. I like the design/composition. Tackling leaves and things in detail is very difficult. This is very good.

I think its lovely, the colours are true to life, my pieris has lost all its red colour now, but the vibrant greens are there. I'm the same Val, I start by trying to be loose with watercolour then get more and more detailed, but this is a lovely painting so I wouldn't worry one bit, we all paint differently and that's the beauty of art, and its nice to have variety.

I love this Val! I think it looks beautiful and it makes such an impact. Its very strange but I have one of these in a pot, had it for years but its looking very woody and only this afternoon I was looking on line for a replacement!

A beautiful design for this plant Val, the dark background really shows it well and as Linda says the colours are so realistic. Lovely shadows on the leaves. I love the tiny bell like flowers, so, I would be very pleased with this :)

This is lovely Val.

Not too tight at all Val, I find it quite fascinating!

A lovely painting as others have already said with a beautiful composition. I have these plants in my garden and I have never thought about painting them., but now I might rethink and have a go. but I would be tempted to do the first coat as you have done but then in certain areas put a deeper coat on some of the reds and also some subtle shades of greens. I have never looked close enough to see that they have flowers, thanks for showing me these little bells....(It goes to show I am not a gardener) just a painter.... well done Val and it is not at all untidy because the plant does grow in a tight pickle of leaves

This is just so beautiful, Val. Such a difficult subject but you have created a lovely design and the leaves are gorgeous, so realistic yet loose, with great light and shade throughout. Just love it!

I think you have done a smashing job, and no, I doesn't look untidy, its lovely as it is.

Beautifully done with lovely colours well highlighted by the dark background. It would be interesting to see a “looser” version as well but I guess most of us stick with a successful style or format once we’ve got it, and you certainly have. I’d be very happy with this.

You are all so kind with your comments, thank you very much. I still feel I've been more messy than loose in parts, especially where I've tried to push some leaves back with a wash but it might grow on me especially if I view it from a distance rather than close up:) Thanks again .

Never heard of it Carole... It's obviously so well painted and with much care. However, as you have asked, I much prefer your more expressive and less laboured pieces. No real surprise there I suppose.

Lovely painting Val. If you had been looser with it we might not be able to recognise the plant.

Thank you Alan even though I'm Val not Carole LOL

Thank you Linda . I wish I didn't get so uptight about painting loosely ( excuse the pun ) and just do what comes naturally.

I think this is great, Val, against the dark background and the flowers are painted loosely with great design.

I think this is lovely Val. I'm always impressed by what other people can achieve with waterclour. I have these in my garden and your painting is perfect as far as I can see.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your generous comments Maureen, John, Carolyn and Russell.

Watercolour of a pieris in my garden. I started out trying to paint this very loosely but, as uusual, got tighter and tighter and I now feel that this looks rather untidy but thought I'd post it anyway. What are your thoughts on it please? Be brutal if you wish I'm very thick skinned :)
