Maybe not,but I clicked on it because I like the way you've picked up the light on the foreground boulders - and the atmospheric colours of the distant mountains. Recession is difficult to convey - as you rightly infer: keep practising.

I agree with Robert the light on the rocks against the colour of the wet sand and rock pools is really super Val, this is lovely work in its own right

Love the light in this Val. I think your problem may be that you have given equal weight to all the tones. Just a suggestion but perhaps you need stronger foreground tones? Lovely aspect and atmosphere in this.

Really good work Val! colour and lighting are spot on.

I'm not really sure that it matters all that much Val but I am one for breaking the 'rules' of painting and recession isn't my strong point! You could darken the bottom third of the painting with some dark ripples on the water and darker patches on the sandy bits? I do like your colours and the painting overall actually as it is!

Val, I would be absolutely chuffed if I could produce a painting of this quality. You've got the scale of depth spot on and the light/lichen on the foreground rocks give clarity and detail needed in the foreground. Step back and have another look.......it's a great painting!

I'm with Louise on this Val - if I like something I like it and I like the serenity in this one [ and they're saying The Recession is over anyway Lol!]

I agree with Ruth and Louise Val,the foreground could benefit of darker tones. You have got those dark rocks in the distance and the shadows on the nearby rocks so you would need something to match them on the front. All in all it's a lovely painting!

Grateful thanks to Robert, Ros, Ruth, Mark, Louise, Fiona, Debs and Satu for your extremely helpful comments regarding the recession in this painting, much appreciated. How come we only see these things once the painting is finished, photographed etc and all the paints and brushes have been put away ? lol

Always the way Val! However, I like the rocks. I'm standing in front of them in that soggy sand.

I'm the same Val. As soon as I post mine here any faults leap out at me. Could our digital cameras be part of the cause? I know that our camera shows all my wrinkles when I'm being photographed, every single one of them.. lol

Gorgeous colors, Val, and superb atmosphere and light. Stunning!

Viewing this on screen ( and having just viewed Fiona's latest painting! ) I see I haven't managed to get the recession I wanted in this :( Oh well, it's all good practice. Any help and advice more than welcome.
