They have perhaps been there many years Val, like me they have subsidence :o)) Lovely windy day atmosphere, great palette.

I like that you've painted a detail that many would have missed. I think the cottage looks fine, gives them a bit of character.

great sky and I love the cottage detailed on the right

Brilliant start to your watercolour year Val......your cottage isn't wonky, it's character and it's great. I love the washes you have used in the mountains.

Thanks for your great comments Carole, Kevin, James and Fiona. I love using watercolour but I find landscapes so much easier to do in pastel so you've given me a much needed boost.

Never mind the cottage, Val, paintings shouldn't be about accuracy - they should be about making the viewer engage with the scene and you definitely do that for me. I love everything about it and especially like the granulated effect you have achieved within the blues. The jolly bunting just tops it all off.

I think the rickety old cottage is perfect with the scene, Val - it definitely adds to the atmosphere of the place and does not in the least bit look awry. This is a lovely piece, with clear washes, a lovely palette and a lovely transition of hues. You're off to a magnificent start for 2014!

Hehe dear Val, at this stage in the winter after the weather we have had and the excesses of the festive season we have all got a bit of subsidence! This is a super watercolour capturing of this lovely scene, the cottages are great and as Seok said the slight lean of that cottage gives it character, it will probably be so old it is entitled to lean a bit! Xx

Forgot to say thanks loads for your lovely comment on my New Year Cat pastel portrait x

Many thanks Thea, Seok and Ros.

Like this one Val, actually saw it at the Crieff gallery when I was up this week taking some of my own painting up .

My new years resolution is to attempt more watercolour landscapes and hopefully improve. This is the first one of this year so there is lots for me to work on. Shame the left hand cottage looks as though it's got subsidence :) Thanks for looking
