'Lady on the Rock'
A watercolour of a statue of 'Wairaka' (Lady on the Rock), at Whakatane habour entrance, in New Zealand. This is what the statue represents; The name " Whakatane" ("Wh" is pronounced "F"), commemorates an incident occurring after the arrival of the Maori canoe "Mataatua" . The men had gone ashore and the canoe began to drift. Wairaka, a chieftainess, said "Kia Whakatane au i ahaua" (I will make myself a man), and commenced to paddle the canoe, which women were not allowed to do, and with the help of the other women saved the canoe.
