This painting is a bit of an experiment. I painted white and grey in oils over an old abstract painting on canvas (which was originally painted with knives and very textured). I then just used light brushwork to add the figure and it gave a ghostly transparent effect. The painting is actually long and thin 76 x 30 cm showing all the dress. The pink dress has a chiffon type effect with heavier texture. I've done this painting to get out of a rut of landscapes, seascapes and flowers and also to appeal to younger people who often like unframed paintings with more modern topics. (This is guidance from my daughters & granddaughters who like the finished result as it's a bit more "trendy" in style.) Is it just me, or do other painters get a bit stale sometimes and change their styles away from something they instinctively paint?
