This has got all the makings of a good landscape Pat, I do tend to agree with you on your couple of points. This is how I tend to paint, using normally four or five layers to complete an oil

Oil on Canvas. It's not quite finished, needs a bit more depth in the shadows and stronger light in the sky. I enjoy this type of painting - a more indirect method with around 5 layers, just 3 on here. There have been some wonderful skies this summer with the constantly changing weather. I'll post it again when it's finished in the square format 60 x 60 cm
