Hello Denise. Lovely to meet you and a cracking portrait this is. Love the gentle colours you have used.

Hi Denise great to see you. Well done.

Exceptional Denise!

Portraits like this have a fresh appeal that would just be ;most if you worked on it all day and refined it. It's splendid as it is.

Thanks for your very kind words Carole, Christine, Fiona and Tony.

A good lively portrait Denise, very well done.

How pretty…well done you.

A good portrait, Denise! How on earth did you do it in four hours?

A beautiful self portrait Denise .

Really great self portrait Denise!

Thanks very much Russell, Tessa, Sylvia, Peter and Paul. Peter, I get plenty of practice Alla Prima, time wasn't a challenge, it was getting a good likeness.

Much appreciated Sarah.

This is a lovely self portrait Denise, nicely rendered in oil, you did a marvelous work of Art in four hours too!

Super self portrait, very well painted in such a short time.

Impressed - this is beautiful , especially for 4 hours ! When will we see you on PAOTY ?

Very kind and much appreciated Angela, Collette, Roger, Stephen, Spencer, Carol, Jenny, Heather and Andrew. Andrew I'm concentrating on life drawing and still life for at least the next 6 months, after that, you never know.

Beautiful portrait Denise.

A very determined identity here Denise. The eyes tell the story.

Brilliant Denise, and lovely to meet you

A lovely sensitive portrait Denise.

Four hours isn't, I think, the issue - by which I mean that I'm not surprised you could achieve this in four hours, given your previous work; you had to go for immediacy, not hanging about, fiddling and fussing. There are costs to that, but if it comes off you've got an immediacy which a more laboured portrait may not yield. You've inspired me! I may have a go myself... sorry to threaten everyone...

A beautiful portrait, Denise - well done!

A nice soft portrait Denise, I like the palette. I did comment earlier but it either vanished or I forgot to press the “ button”. I’m a bit forgetful this weekend, my specs turned up “ opaque” in the freezer.

Thanks for your comments, so kind George, John, Cheryl, Rachel, Alan, Robert, Anne and Marjorie. Definitely have a go Robert and that really made me laugh Marjorie, opaque specs.

Great portrait Denise! Love your palette.

Lovely painting full of charm Denise.

Great job Denise. Looks fresh so stopping after 4 hours prevents overworking. Good idea!

Thanks very much Carole, Shaun and Martin.

Wonderful, Denise!

Very good portrait, Denise!

I set myself 4 hours on the clock. I wanted to see if I could get a good likeness of myself using oils. I stopped after 4 hours. It is a good likeness and I reckon if I had spent a whole day on it, I would have got it refined and the contrast and tones much better. There was an article in this month's magazine using a mirror next to the canvas so that's what prompted me to do this practice.
