Some good delicate pencil work in this portrait Denise. I think that there is still room to go a touch darker in the shadow areas. You’ve drawn a good mouth/lips, but the eyes look a little suspect, particularly his right one… left as we’re looking at your image. Good progress being made nonetheless!

Definitely see your progression Denise , I find portraits and life drawing so difficult but you certainly have taken the challenge and are meeting it head in . I’m looking forward to seeing your progress over the months ahead.

Yes Alan that eye. After the short 10 min break, I noticed a slight adjustment in the models position. It really knocked me of balance and I just couldn't pull it back and the right eye is wrong.

Thanks Paul, I do find it challenging and difficult but it is enjoyable.

It’s a good portrait (can’t comment on likeness obviously),with some nice shading and highlights. I commend your dedication - I find portraiture very demanding.

A good portrait sketch and a very interesting face

Overall a very good sketch Denise. Yes his one eye is a bit wonky but you recognise that, and that will happen especially drawing from life. You’re obviously getting a lot out of your class.

The eye on the right is exceptional. You have described the sunken shape of the socket really well. One suggestion for next time. At the very start, measure the ratio of head above & below the eyebrows.

Well done, Denise. I am very weak at drawing portraits!!

Thanks very much for your comments they are much appreciated Andrew, Heather, Tessa, Owen and David.

Some great facial contours Denise.

Great progress Denise. I admire your tenacity and you will get there. Portraits are so challenging but when you get them right, very rewarding.

Another promising well drawn portrait Denise.

However your classwork turns out Denise, it is progressing and experience to take you forward. It’s very good.
