It’s a great process developing a piece from the kernel of an idea to a finished piece and it’s great when it finally meets your expectations. This is a lovely painting.

I intended doing a quick sketch of a clown today in charcoal but it developed into this a few hours later. Pastel, graphite and a bit of charcoal. I've based it on the old look of vintage clowns although nothing has been copied. I did a loose freehand sketch and built the costume onto it to my own design and added the hoops for a bit more interest. I quite like experimenting with colours and I was happy with my overall colour choice for this.
