It IS a real place - a real place I remember very well indeed, since I used to walk there. As I remember, you could always rely on seeing a couple at least of those huge blue dragonflies at the appropriate time of year. Looks to me as though you should make watercolour painting a bit less of a rare occurrence - masking, by the way, or did you just paint round the snow areas, twigs & branches?

I like this.......a very peaceful painting and I agree with Robert you should do more watercolours.

Thank you both. In the old days (early 70's) Iused to drink in and serve behind the bar of the best pub on the Isle of Wight a den of iniquity called Stark's Hotel, I bet you knew it well Robert? I lived not too far away in a place called Middleton and used to walk past this particular field frequently and often used to find lots of field mushrooms growing there, many a fine breakfast was had with local wild mushrooms, I can taste them now..... My New Years resolution is more watercolour work! Actually I am running a watercolour workshop on February 2nd at the Quarr Abbey Art gallery. I know Robert's paintings are excellent we are now both in a professional exhibiting group known as The Vectis Artisans and am looking forward to exhibiting together in 2013. Fiona Your watercolours are very accomplished, I like all of your work especially your rendering of trees your paintings put me in mind of Roland Hilder. Well done, keep it up!

Looks cold and very snowy, a very clever water colour. Like the little bit of warmth creeping through.

Cracking picture, love the atmosphere you have created.

It's all been said. It makes our scenery here look a bit dreary with all the rain we have!

Although this looks as though it could be a made up scene it is in fact a real place; It is the entrance to the field next to Farringford, Alfred Lord Tennyson's Isle of Wight home and is now a nine hole golf course. This is one of my rare watercolours!
