You've risen to the challenge Michael! A lovely colour palette and the subdued outlined buildings in the background add to the overall effect and don't detract from the wonderful Town Hall.

Wow, Michael. You certainly did it justice, this is stunning! And you are right about the background buildings and the vertical perspective, now the focal point is definitely the Hall itself! The vertical perspective was because I couldn't stand far enough backwards in the street. Love the warm, subtle colours on the building. Thank you very much for taking up the challenge, now I feel guilty for not having painted it myself yet. I certainly will in the coming weeks after finishing the X-mas cards!

This is super Michael, quite a challenge to get the intricate shapes correctly drawn, very well done.

I remember Mia's photo/challenge and at the time, I tried not to think about it! :) This is a really lovely watercolour Michael and well done! All credit to you for painting this tricky subject and producing this super watercolour.

This is a beautiful watercolour Michael. As someone that does buildings all the time I know that this one would not have been easy. I really like the faded buildings in the background. Very well done.

this is really nice Michael, very well painted

really well done!.

Thanks so much everyone fot your really kind comments - very much appreciated - now it's your turn...........

Wonderful crisp watercolour Michael, and I love the faded buildings.........challenge well met!!

Well done Michael. I had a look at this and found another couple of photos on internet, but wasn't happy with the ideas I drew up. Makes me want to look at it again.

Well done Michael! This certainly stands out and conveys how much you enjoyed(I'm assuming here:)) painting it. Lovely pallette used too.

Missed this one - lovely colours and I like how you have faded the buildings out, well done, well challenged! I think I will give this one a miss for obvious reasons!

Many, many congratulations to you for being in the Top Ten (twice!). I knew this would be an eye-catcher and so is your Christmas card. I feel ashamed that I didn't had the time to paint it myself but the Christmas and New Years days were very hectic, so: the photo is already on my painting-table.!!

Many congratulations Michael for being in the top ten, you truly deserve it

Marvellous perspective, a lovely clear watercolour. Congratulations on your 2 works in the December top tens!

I love your subtle treatment of the colour on the walls and the way you've painted the windows. Your style reminds me a lot of that of Richard Taylor. It's beautiful.

Michael, I absolutely LOVE your interpretation of the scene! It's gorgeous - wonderful colors, light and airy and full of joie de vivre. Fabulous!

Well done, Mia, for making the Top Ten. It's a lovely painting and the inclusion in the list is well deserved.

Some may recall that Mia Ketel posted a photo of this interesting and attractive building (The Old Town Hall - Blankenberge) and invited contributors to POL to have a go - well here is my attempt. Not an easy assignment - what do you do about the background buildings? How do you deal with perspective etc? As for the latter I chose to ignore vertical perspective and concentrate on lateral perspective - I think it works. Hope I've done it justice. The original photo is in Mia's gallery and in the copyright free photo section - is anyone else going to have a go? Finally a big thank you to Mia for the challenge - I certainly enjoyed painting it..
