Another one I didn't see before - very interesting painting, massive sense of depth, this could so easily have turned into the dullest painting of the year but you've made it one of the more fascinating.

I have always had an interest in industrial archaeology - particularly the slate mines and quarries of North Wales. Thirty years ago I spent quite a few summers exploring many old sites taking hundreds of photographs (transparencies). Just recently I 'discovered' this collection and realised that here was fantastic material for drawing and painting. The camera has struggled with the depth of colour and the contrasts in the painting, but you get the idea! Acrylic, gesso and oil pastel on canvas, with lots of scratching back and layering. 30cm x 40cm
