To anyone who has visited or knows the market town of Skipton, North Yorkshire the sturdy, twin-towered gatehouse is instantly recognisable. Skipton Castle is one of the most complete and well preserved medieval castles in England. It has withstood centuries of conflict including a three-year siege during the Civil War in 1645.
