This looks great Marjorie

Thanks Maureen. Don't know if you remember the other version.

Simple and elegant.

Well I believe that I mentioned taking them out as I recall, this is superb Marjorie, a possible contender perhaps for Patchings.

This is just beautiful, Marjorie - I prefer this simpler version too...

Everyday objects make the best piece of art and you have proved it Marjorie.

I like your soft approach Marjorie and gorgeous palette.

Marjorie your work is always top notch and this is a stunner gorgeous

Super work Marjorie, that shaft of light hitting the cup and jar works so well. I remember liking the original also, must compare the two.. The advantage with still life work, is the ability to constantly rearrange the subject.

Nice painting Marjorie , Lovely pastel shades a very attractive still life

A delicate rendiotion

I have just spent an interesting five minutes comparing the two versions side by side. I do think the stronger shadow is an improvement and also replacing the tray by the single cup. It reminds me how important it is to review our work.

This really is great, Marjorie. I liked the other version but this is a lot stronger. Super work!

This looks marvellous Marjory. I do remember your previous work and I like this version better. Love the palette too.

Think it has worked Marjorie removing these items has emphasised the shaft of light.

Love the slight blur of the picture, which adds to the gentle atmosphere and the wonderful shaft of sunlight, giving warmth and life to the painting. Beautiful Marjorie.

I have read all the comments Marjorie so cannot add to that. However I think I read that you start right out on the canvas when you paint. Might it not solve the composition problem by first composing a number of pencil sketches to find that complete form you are looking for.

Didn't see the other paintings but this is so fresh and well composed. Love the palette.

Beautiful painting Marjorie

Love this version, Marjorie, it has a lovely soft, restful feel to it.

Well I'm amazed and a big thankyou for commenting again folks. I just posted it as a point of interest to show the changes. John asks why I don't do a few pencil sketches first, to work out the composition. Well occasionally I do but usually I'm too impatient and want to use the paint as soon as possible. I do think for a fair time before I start but working through " mistakes" seems to be my modus operandi. This time, after I decided to remove the tray and jug ( and teapot in an earlier stage ) I worked without looking at the set up and relied on instinct.

Sensational result Marjorie, whatever you do is always top quality work. Beautiful soft neutrals.

Yes we learn by mistakes, but I am not sure about having them as a modus operandi. Lol . Thanks for your reply.

Absolutely beautiful and harmonious Marjorie!

Thanks again, Fiona and Satu. John, I don't intentionally make mistakes to work through them.....but it happens quite a lot!

Marjorie, I have looked at both the paintings again and although I love both of them I do think this one is probably the best, more simplified and showing more light - amazing how you have been able to make the change so well.

Maureen, thanks so much for looking. I decided it wasn't right and sploshed the paint on! As you see, I extended the cloth into the light. It was that or paint over the whole lot. If you have time, look up Cadell's "Carnations". I saw it in an exhibition and that's what inspired me.

Almost missed this one, Marjorie. Great painting, I like the softness of the light

That's a lovely affect Marjorie. Very subtle blend of soothing colours. Nice work.

Many thanks Gudrun, Cesare and Jim.

Took out the jug, teapot and tray and altered tones etc. Happier with it.
