This is really good Marjorie. Looks a lovely fella!

I think the card hasn't detracted from the product at all. It's very impressive. All I think needs some life are the eyes Marjorie.

Love it her indoors.

I think it's a very impressive portrait. I love the skin tones and hair. Diana

Would recognise him anywhere! Lovely portrait. Don't care what it's painted on - if it works, it really works!

A painting as fine as this deserves canvas Marjorie - it's lovely

I think you seem to have already got the contures of the face Marjorie or at least it looks good to me, great colours and I like the distant look in the eyes, nice one.

Lovely work Marjorie each stroke applied with love. It's a nice portrait and he looks a handsome chap.

Clever lady Marjorie ...

Who would have thought he looked like the lead singer in The Yardbirds when he was young...thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

( the one with the long blonde hair)

Very good Marjorie.

Very great portrait, Marjorie, beautiful skin tones and very expressive.

Like it as it is....

Good portrait Marjorie, skin colour well done and the hair shades.

There's good modelling and depth throughout the piece, Marjorie, but you've always managed to improve on every good painting you've produced, so I can't wait to see the finished product!

As you have said Marjorie, but it on the way there. It has a not sure feel about it to my eye.

It's gorgeous Marjorie!! The hair and the skin are extremely well painted. You call this a exercise!? What will the real thing be?

looking good so far Marjorie - isn't he worth a canvas?

I've now edited the image, having tweaked it here and there. More tones on the face, the hair and ear/jaw line changed a little and his eyes touched a bit - the mirror helps a lot, you think you've got it, look in the mirror and back to the drawing board again! But I'm as happy as I can be with this, no more!

My five year old grandson has just said " grandpa's shirt is RED, not blue, you have to put more red on it!" ( all said with "silly grandma" tone)

And this is only an exercise, I'm in trouble then!! A super portrait Marjorie.

Thankyou Michael and everyone for those very supportive comments.

I hope 'himself' hasn't read the line about him not worthy of a canvas Marjorie......you could be in trouble there! I don't know anything about portraiture but he's a very handsome chap....I like it very much.

Oh Fiona, you've made me feel rotten now! I'll have to put it on record that he's " numero uno"

Marvellous 'exercise' Marjorie!!!!!! He's a cracker! The painting's not bad either. (Sorry! I just couldn't resist that old line!) Seriously , it is a marvellous portrait. Clever girl!

I will revisit this tomorrow, it needs more "sculpting" of the face and some softening of line here and there. I painted it on card, in acrylic, and the paint slid about horribly. Canvas is so much better but this is just an exercise so I didn't feel it warranted a canvas.
