French market

You certainly have captured the vibrant colours and buzz of a continental market Marjorie. The details are amazing, from the plastic wrap on the pot plants to the wicker baskets on the right, which I love…..and how you’ve achieved the wicker effect with oil pastel, I’ll never know!

Fiona, how quick is that?! I’m so pleased you spotted the plastic wrap😀. My nails and finger ends are filthy!

Yes, you've done the job really well, like this a lot

Interesting you have posted the un cropped version. What a lovely riot of colour. Reminded me that I have quite a lot of photographs of markets from holidays

Lovely job Marjorie, I like the atmosphere of the market that you have captured.

Bought a basket like the one bottom left, to carry my art stuff in. Bargain!

A lovely colourful scene Marjorie. I just can't get to grips with oil pastels but you certainly know how to use them!

Thanks everyone and thanks Val. Yes, they can be a bit tricky, they come into their own when you pile on the layers, adding the highlights for eg.

What a lovely scene Marjorie, which you’ve captured so well with your oil pastels. Don’t know how you do so well with them, I can’t get into them! Love the way you’ve dealt with the figures too.

Lovely and vibrant. You’ve really captured the atmosphere.

A truly beautiful vibrant colourful painting, Marjorie! I just love the palette you have used.

Thanks for the comments Tessa, Christine and David.

Love the energy of this and how you have presented such an interesting, colourful array of a typical French market Marjorie. I also admire how the figures are painted in such an animated way.

Colourful and atmospheric it certainly is Marjorie, great work.

Great job Marjorie, definitely prefer the cropped version though!

Sumptuous colours Marjorie!

Thanks once more everyone for taking the time to look and comment. Incidentally, I look on this as a sketch, not a painting ( there was a discussion about the difference on the forum quite recently ). I’m feeling I might try it in oils - without so many details.

Great details and colours!

Wow! You’ve really captured that market scene so well Marjorie. Great colours, super details -those plastic baskets are brilliant!

Thanks Anne and Spencer. A pity that if I cropped it I’d lose those plastic baskets - I like them too.

Beautiful, love the vibrant colours and you have captured the mood very well.

You’ve captured the scene of movement and colour so well. Bonus point for doing it in oil pastels

Wow, superb Marjorie, lots of lovely colour and detail

Oil pastels on Sennelier oil pastel pad. Market I visited a couple of weeks ago in Uzès, near Avignon. The colours and atmosphere were so vibrant. I’ve tried to capture a sense of it.
