Looks a lovely location to paint from Marjorie, hope the exhibition goes well.

A charming little place, Marjorie.....Good luck with the exhibition! If only I lived a bit closer!

What a beautiful inspiring venue Marjorie, no wonder you create such accomplished pieces! A lovely sunlit scene.

A very good and inspiring place to paint, Marjorie. There must be a lovely atmosphere in your art club and this painting is wonderful. Good luck with your exhibition, I'm sure it will be successful.

Love the subtle colours, great building, and you really got the foreground resolved, beautiful painting.

This is so good Marjorie, what a pretty place this looks. I love the soft muted colours. Great job!

It was interesting to watch this one develop on the forum, and I think you've stopped at the right point - you could fiddle a bit more, but you've said what you wanted to say and it works.

You did it, Marjorie!! I've enjoyed watching this painting progress in WIP and think you've ended up with an excellent painting. I know you were getting a bit fed up by the end but it's been well worth the effort. Your final version has mood, character, wonderful light and delightfully subtle colour. The lavenders are gorgeous and your foreground grasses are top drawer, and beautifully impressionistic/suggested. Your deft application of flowers on the blooming shrubs takes the biscuit, and is that a hanging basket on the far left? Great! I'll bet ten to one you're still not happy, but that's the nature of the beast methinks. There's always something. I'm going to post my recent attempt at a LARGE painting (oil) in WIP for some much needed advice. lol I doubt I'll ever be happy with it. I started it before my pastel series of South Shields beaches, before my Skye oil, before everything it seems. SO, I understand the fed up bit. LOL Anyway, I digress. You have a classic, here. Bri

This has turned out really well Marjorie. The choice of palette helps tremendously, giving an overall tonal balance to the piece. You have kept the vast expanse of foreground to a minimum, which has also worked well. A couple of figures near the seat perhaps?

How sweet! Such a lovely looking place and and a marvellous painting Marjorie!

A painting to be very proud of. It is a delight Marjorie. And thanks for leting us see it grow.

Lovely painting of a very attractive building. Hope it is warmer in winter than some of the village halls I've been in!

This is really charming, Marjorie. I watched it develop on the forum. It reminds me of cottages in parts of North Devon. I love the colours.

First of all, thanks ,all, for the comments. This place is idyllic in warm weather and still interesting in winter, even if , yes Margaret, a tad "cool". It's set among a small number of cottages and the feeling is of "time stood still". Yes Brian, I was becoming a little fed up with it, it's not a usual subject for me and it was a challenge. The foreground took a little thinking about, a knife rather than a brush seemed to work. I don't think I'll do more to it, at least not for a while and as for figures, Alan, there was a little girl sitting for a while at the table....thought about including her then decided against. Thanks again everyone.

Beautifully painted Marjorie, 😀

Lovely work, Marjorie, I enjoyed watching it's progress on the forum. It has a great sunlit quality to it.

Fabulous Marjorie, your style has such a beautiful softness about it I'm envious. I'll look out for this hall next time I visit Northumberland as we usually get to Craster.

Marjorie, if you get chance to come over to Kirkcudbright......I would hate you to miss the exhibition called “Stars of Scotland” that’s showing at the moment. It’s in the newly refurbished Kirkcudbright Gallery, a collection of the Glasgow boys, Scottish colourists and even Pre-Raphaelite! Fabulous! Here’s the link for the gallery https://www.kirkcudbrightgalleries.org.uk/event/stars-of-scotland/ It doesn’t list any of the artists but I’ll PM a few of the ones I know.

Wonderful sunlight Marjorie

Thanks again everyone - you wouldn't like to join would you? One Monday a month? No sweat! Fiona, thanks for all the info. Himself has promised to water someone's allotment over the weekend! I'm going to try and work on him.

Let me know if you need any assistance Marjorie.....with Himself, not the watering!

Ha ha, we could pin him down, then who knows what could happen. But it doesn't look promising for this weekend. I'm going to look it up to see how long the exhibition is on .

Plenty of time to see it Marjorie, Julian found this short preview https://www.facebook.com/kirkcudbrightgalleries/videos/512299972532137/ Let me know if the link work.

Beautiful place and beautifully painted Marjorie.

And good luck from me for your exhibition :)
